 COMPETITION RULES

1 / The idea of the competition is to correctly predict the scoreline of the matches played in each predictions round. You will score points depending on how accurate your predictions are.

You will score 7 points if you get a scoreline correct.

For example, England are playing Wales and you predict a 2-0 win for England. If England win by 2 goals to nil, then you get the 7 points.

You will score 2 points if you get the correct match outcome.

For example, England are playing Wales and you predict a 2-0 win for England. If England win by any score other than 2-0, you will get 2 points. So if England win by 1-0 or 2-1 or 3-1 or 3-2 etc, you get 2 points.

You will score 0 points if you get an incorrect match outcome.

For example, England are playing Wales and you predict a 2-0 win for England. If the match ends in either a draw or a win for Wales, you score 0 points.

Once you have done all your predictions, you must then pick TWO 'double points jokers'. These should be the 2 matches that you are most confident of getting the score right. Any points that you do get in these 2 matches will then be doubled. This means you can potentially score 14 points in each game if you get these scores completely right.

There will be approximately 15 matches to predict on in each prediction round. As mentioned above, you must then select two matches that you are particularly confident of getting correct and any points that you gain for these matches will be doubled.

2 / You can submit your predictions directly from this website from the menu's at the top of the home webpage. It's very easy and straight forward to do. Just fill in the information required and click on the 'send the predictions' button at the bottom of the page. This will then automatically send all the details you've entered to me via e-mail and the info will also be saved in a database hosted by Wix, my webhost. You should also receive an automated email showing your predictions that is forwarded to you.  You can also check to see if I've received your scores by visiting the 'your confirmation' webpage. The info here is copied and paste directly from the database. If your name does not appear on this page or you do not receive the automated confirmation email from me within 24 hours of submitting your scores, it probably means i haven't received them for whatever reason so I would recommend that you redo your scores.

3 / In the event of any postponed or abandoned matches, they will be declared void and no points will be scored by anyone.

24/11/13 - If one of your joker choices is postponed or abandoned, as long as you have given me a reserve joker when submitting your scores, the reserve joker will become your new joker choice no matter when your original choice is postponed or abandoned. so for example, you have selected a game that is being played on a Sunday. This gets postponed at short notice and your reserve joker has already been played on the Saturday, whatever points you scored with your reserve joker will be doubled. Reserve choices MUST be done when you submit your scores. If you don't bother to give me any reserve choices and your joker is postponed, you will get no points. You can give me as many reserve choices as you like on the submission forms.

4 / The entry fee for this competition is £27.50. This entry fee MUST be paid before 5.00 pm on Friday 30th August 2024. You can either pay via the Paypal button on the relevant webpage or by Bank transfer or by getting cash to me. Once the competition has started and I know how much has been collected, I will let you know how the prize pot will be divided.

The competition will run on a league basis with the winner being the person who gets the most points throughout the whole competition. In the event of a tie, Highest placed person will be the one who has correctly predicted the most correct results. By this I mean the most results where you gain 7 points. If there is still a tie, then the prize money will be split 50/50. There will also be cup competitions. Three of these cup competitions are known as 'The Clive Day memorial Cup' (CDM). This cup runs like the real champions league where all prediction players are put into groups and they then all play against the other people in their group. The top 4 finishers in each group will then go through to the next qualifying stage. These competitions run through the length of the season. There is also another cup competition which is known as the 'Knock-out cup' and this cup is run like the real FA cup, one versus one with the winner going through to the next round. There will be 3 of these Knockout cup competitions this season. Again, these will run throughout the length of the season.

New ruling 5/10/15 - If any Knockout cup games finish in draws or from the Quarter finals onwards in the CDM cup, the result will be decided by a 'penalty shootout'. The first 5 matches on your predictions list will count as the 'penalties'. Who scores the most points in these 5 matches goes through to the next round. Joker points will NOT count as doubled in penalty shootouts. If the scores are still level, we go to sudden death. Whoever scores the most points in the 6th game on the list will win. If it's still level, we move on to game 7 and this pattern will continue until we have a winner.

New ruling 23/11/21 - If both players of pairing fail to submit any predictions, they will both be eliminated from the Cup competition. This means whomever the winner would have met in the next round will receive a bye.

New ruling 20/12/21 - If a penalty shootout is required to settle a predictions cup match, The first 5 PLAYED MATCHES

will be the five games of the penalty shootout so, for example, if match 2 and 3 on the fixture list are postponed, then match 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7 will count as the 1st five penalties. Match 8 will be the 1st sudden death penalty and 9, the 2nd etc.

5 / A Manager of the month (motm) competition will take place each month but entry in to this will be separate from your original £25 entry. Entry will be £5 per month but you do not need to take part if you don't wish to do so. It is fine to take part in the main game and not take part in 'motm'. Similarly, If you are not in the main game, you are welcome to compete in the 'motm'. I will put a Paypal button on the website a week or so before the beginning of the month in order for you to pay your entry.

6 / Once the entry deadline time has passed, everyone's scores will be posted on this website at the 'your predictions' webpage. This is so that you can see how everyone is doing as the matches progress if you so wish.

7 / All your predictions should be for 90 minutes only. In cup matches (ie League cup,FA cup etc), Extra time and penalties do not count.

8 / There is a deadline time for me to receive your predictions which will be strictly adhered to. No entries will be accepted after the deadline time.  All deadline times will be posted on the homepage. Please make yourselves aware of these times.

9 / There is no limit to the number of entries into the game per person. If you wish to enter more than once and put a set of predictions in under an alias name, that is fine.

10 / If you miss 6 prediction rounds in succession without making any contact with me, it will be assumed that you no longer wish to continue taking part in the game and you will be removed from the game permanently. I have decided to do this as in previous years when people no longer sent in any scores and had obviously given up, I still had to do all the formulas and various workings out on the spreadsheet for them which was unnecessary work for me. That is why I have decided to introduce this ruling.

11/ When submitting more than one set of predictions for different people from the same computer, please make sure that the correct name for the relevant person is put into the name box. If you put in the wrong name, then that is your fault and no name changes will be made after the entry deadline has passed.

12/ There have been times where I have set a prediction entry deadline time and then found out that 1 or more of the matches have a kick off time which is earlier than the deadline time. In the event of this happening again, the entry deadline time will remain the same but the game(s) that kick off earlier will be removed from the prediction form as soon as they start. So, if I have a 7.00pm entry deadline and then find out that a game kicks off at 5.30 (as happens in the Champions league with the Russian teams starting earlier when at home due to adverse weather conditions), you can still submit your predictions up until 7.00 pm but from 5.30 the earlier game will not be available for you to predict. I will remove it from the prediction forms. Everyone who has submitted their scores before 5.30 will score points as normal.
